A computer adaptive test (CAT) is an test that will adapt to the test-taker’s ability. Generally, if earlier questions are answered correctly, questions will become progressively harder. If early questions are missed, the exam becomes progressively easier. This means that the GMAT may not be the same for two test-takers who take the exam on the same day. Practicing with an adaptive test, like Occam’s, will help you better prepare for this unique aspect of the GMAT.
As with any exam, early preparation is a key to being successful on the GMAT. Starting as much as several months prior to the exam can be helpful, but we generally recommend at least a month of preparation prior to the exam.
Preparing for standardized tests should include strengthening basic knowledge by studying key vocabulary and concepts likely to be tested, as well as consistent practice with authentic practice exams that mimic the actual test.
Total GMAT scores are between 200 and 800. There are four individual scores on each GMAT exam that factor in to your total GMAT score: Verbal (with a maximum score of 60), Quantitative (with a maximum score of 60), Analytical Writing (based on one Analysis of an Argument essay, and scores range from 0 to 6 in half point intervals), and Integrative Reasoning (scores which ranges from 1 to 8).
The GMAT is a standardized test taken by students who plan to study in an MBA program. The test is designed to predict how well a student will do in the program and is used by graduate business schools to help with their admissions decisions.
